Cumberland Goes To War is a community heritage project coordinated and promoted by Allegany County Tourism in partnership with the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority, the City of Cumberland, Western Maryland Scenic Railroad and the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce. Funded in part by the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority, the Allegany County Commissioners and the City of Cumberland. Entered the service from Cumberland, MD. Died in Paris, France June 24, 1945. Buried at Luxenbourg American Cemetary, Luxembourg City, Luxembourg.


2nd Lt. Nancy Jane Leo, graduated from Catholic Girls Central High School and Allegany Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1942. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patsy Leo, 328 Frederick Street, Cumberland.
2nd Lt. Leo was killed in a jeep accident in Paris, July 24, 1945. She was on her way to meet her sister, 1st Lt. Angela Leo when she was killed when the jeep she and two other nurses were riding in was forced off the road. She is the only female buried at Luxenbourgh Cemetary where Gen. Patton is buried.
